US retail pork prices for the month of September generally increased, excluding chops which finished lower. Bacon prices edged +0.1% to $7.38/lb for the month and is +2.3% over last year, while chops slipped -1.4% to $4.19/lb which is +3.4% over the same month in 2021. Total hams rose +3.0% from a month earlier to $4.34/lb and is up +13.3% compared year ago levels, while Other pork was up +2.2% in the latest data to $3.71/lb which is +6.2% over year ago levels.

US pork cutout for September at $102.86/cwt fell -12.1% from August levels as all primals were recorded lower, and the monthly pork cutout average was -4.3% under year ago levels. Most wholesale pork primals continue below year ago levels, excluding picnics which are near even with 2021.

Monthly US retail beef prices were mixed: Uncooked ground fell -2.3% to $5.33/lb which is +5.6% over last year, roasts edged +0.1% to $6.83/lb bringing them -4.2% under 2021, while steaks were up +0.6% to $9.59/lb which is -3.2% under last year, and other beef (not veal) slipped -0.1% to $6.77/lb which is +2.0% over September 2021.

Choice cutout was down -4.3% in September to $252.97/cwt bringing them -20.5% under last year, while select cutout also fell -4.3% but to $228.72/cwt on the month and is -20.0% under last year.

US retail broiler prices were unchanged from a month earlier at $2.54/lb for September, bringing them +17.6% over year ago prices, while wholesale broilers fell -1.8% on the month to $1.12/lb which is +24.9% over 2021.
