US retail pork prices for July were higher overall than the month previous and above year-ago prices. Bacon prices improved +0.8% to $6.88/lb which is up +10.4% over last year, while chops edged +0.3% higher in the latest data to $4.41/lb and is +4.0% over year-ago prices. Retail hams rose +3.2% to $4.71/lb from the previous month and is +4.0% over a year earlier, while the category accounting for all other pork dipped -0.7% from June prices to $3.62/lb and brings the category +1.8% over year-ago prices. Monthly wholesale pork values were mixed from June into July, however US pork cutout ended +1.1% higher on the month to $99.98/cwt and brought it -10.9% under year-ago values.
US retail beef prices for the month of July were primarily higher from the previous month and continue at elevated levels compared to a year earlier. Uncooked ground increased +1.5% to $5.80/lb which is +4.7% over last year while roasts rose +2.2% to $7.64/lb bringing them +6.0% over a year earlier. Beef steaks rose +2.1% to $10.86/lb which is also up +2.1% over a year earlier, while the category accounting for all other beef (not veal) prices slipped -0.9% to $7.22/lb but is up +6.6% over year-ago prices. Wholesale beef values varied in July with choice cutout generally stable by climbing a modest +0.1% to $320.10/cwt and +3.7% over a year earlier, while select cutout slipped -0.5% lower on the month to $301.30/cwt but up +7.4% over last year.
US retail broiler prices at $2.41/lb for July improved +0.4% on the month but is -3.6% under a year earlier, while wholesale broiler values for the same period climbed +1.1% from a month earlier to $1.18/lb which is +28.2% over last year.
