US retail pork prices for October generally increased 2%-3% from the month previous, with most pork categories also above year-ago prices. Bacon prices were up +2.0% to $7.22/lb which is -5.1% under last year, while hams increased +2.2% in the latest data to $4.66/lb and is +5.1% over October 2022. All chops were up +2.9% from September prices to $4.45/lb which is +4.2% over year-ago prices, with the boneless variety on the rise while the bone-in variety is lower, and the category accounting for all other pork prices rose +3.2% to $3.74/lb for the month and is +2.8% over last year. Monthly wholesale pork values were lower in October with US pork cutout falling -8.0% lower to $90.44/cwt and is -10.6% under year-ago values.
Monthly US retail beef prices were also higher overall: Uncooked ground climbed +1.7% to $5.67/lb which is +6.9% over last year, roasts were up +1.0% to $7.32/lb bringing them +9.4% over October 2022, and steaks edged +0.6% higher to $10.83/lb which is +11.6% over a year earlier. All other beef (not veal) slipped -0.6% lower to $6.79/lb however is +2.7% over year-ago prices. Wholesale beef values declined overall, with choice cutout slipping -0.9% lower to $303.48/cwt however is +20.4% over a year earlier, while select cutout fell -1.8% on the month to $277.94/cwt and is +25.2% over last year.
US retail broiler prices at $2.48/lb for October climbed +0.6% on the month however is -2.3% under a year earlier. Wholesale broiler values declined -2.2% from a month earlier to $0.94/lb for October which is -9.6% under last year.
