Weekly average barrow and gilt weights in the ISM reporting area for the week ending Sep 9th were reported at 279.0 lbs, up 3.3 lbs or +1.2% from a week earlier but -0.4% under year-ago levels. Year-to-date, current hog weights are -0.6% under the same weeks in 2022.

Canadian federally inspected market hog slaughter for the week ending Sept 2nd at 397.3 thousand head fell 5.6 thousand or -1.4% on the week, but is +0.5% over last year and +0.4% over last year-to-date.

Canadian sow slaughter was reported at 1,882 head for the same week, dropping 118 head or -5.9% from the week previous. Compared to last year, current Canadian sow slaughter rates are up +20.8% from the same week last year and +16.3% over last year-to-date.
